Robert R. Shomer, VMD

Dr. Shomer, a 1936 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School, served in the U.S. Veterinary Corps during World War II. He practiced veterinary medicine in Mahway, N.J., for many years and was an ardent veterinary historian and advocate for animal welfare.

He was one of the founders of the American Veterinary Medical Historical Society and collected antique animal husbandry books and books on horses. He donated his collection to the AMVM. He was a New Jersey delegate to the AVMA for many years and held numerous offices in the NJVMA. The government of Israel honored him for his contributions to the Israel veterinary profession.
